Jello Poke Cake is an NFL player’s favourite dessert and he is also the first player in history to have it on his plate at a home game.
“I’ve always been a fan of the Poke Cake and have been enjoying it with family and friends,” Joe Staley said.
“It’s definitely something I enjoy and I’m a big fan of all the teams.”
Poke cake has been around since the 1980s and the first batch was released by Jello Pudding, owned by a former NFL player.
Jello Pudelice is also owned by former football star Cris Carter.
Carter was born in Australia, but he played in Australia for 14 seasons with the Canberra Raiders and Staley.
“The first time I saw it, I was like, ‘I don’t know if I’m going to be able to go out and eat this cake,'” Carter told ABC News.
“My mum was like ‘No, it’s good.
It’s delicious’,” he said.”
We made it for a party and I had it for breakfast and it was a huge hit.”
It took a few years for Carter to find a place to store his Poke Cake in a fridge.
“It’s been sitting in my fridge for a long time now,” he said with a smile.
“When I finally bought the fridge I had the whole family watching me and they said ‘Oh you should do this’.”
When Carter finally got the Poke cake in time for a big game, it was still sitting in his fridge.
The family’s secret to the Poke, said Carter, is the cream cheese frosting that he adds to the cake before serving it.
“If you don’t like cream cheese, I can get you a recipe for you,” he told ABC Radio Canberra.
“And it’s like a cake with a cream cheese icing.”
Carter said he still gets the poke cake on his menu.
“To my wife and I, I just don’t think it’s a bad thing.
You can make it with cream cheese,” he explained.”
You can just make it like any other cake.
You just need a little bit more of a crunch and it’ll still taste good.”
Pokes cake was born out of a craving for something that was tasty, but not too sweet.
“So I got a recipe from my mum and I just tried it and it’s delicious,” Carter said.
